(والماء أفضل) من الحجر لأنه يزيل العين والأثر.

وما حكي عن سعد بن أبي وقاص وابن الزبير أنهما أنكرا الاستنجاء بالماء ، أجيب عنه: بأنه كان على من يعتقد وجوبه، ولا يري الأحجار مجزئة؛ لأنهما شاهدا من الناس محافظة عليه، فخافا التعمق في الدين.
