(ويكون متعظًا بما يعظ الناس به) ليحصل الانتفاع بوعظه، وروي عنه - صلى الله عليه وسلم - أنه قال:"عُرض عليَّ قوم تقرض شفاههم بمقاريض من نارٍ، فقيل لي: هؤلاء خطباءُ من أمتك يقولون ما لا يفعلون".
