مسألة: لا يجوز الجمع بين أكثر من أربع نسوة، ولولا أن هذا قد ذكر في الخلاف لما كان يجب أن نذكره؛ والدليل عليه قوله تعالى: " مثنى وثلاث ورباع " ، وقوله -صلى الله عليه وسلم- لغيلان وعنده عشر نسوة " اختر أربعا " ، وروي أن نوفل بن معاوية أسلم وتحته خمس فقال له النبي -صلى الله عليه وسلم-: " فارق إحداهن " .
